That is indeed good tactics coupled with excellent dancing (and I wish I could catch her La Source), the only thing she could possibly improve on is engaging back with the crowds on twitterverse, after all Twitter works both ways...

If people don't like the tweets from dancers, they don't have to follow them. My favorite Bouder tweet didn't seem to get picked up anywhere, for her first Swan Lake: "Live tweet: intermission at swan lake. Just finished act II odette. Putting on odile crown and red lipstick. Look out seigfried!"

C'mon, what's not to love?

She sandwiched that tweet with one of the best, and certainly most astonishing, Odette/Odiles I've ever seen, so she's allowed a little levity. And don't let her tone fool you -- in the choices she makes onstage, she's the smartest dancer out there today. (IMHO, YMMV, of course.)

To answer Gia's implied rhetorical question:

"In between acts of “Sleeping Beauty” she tweeted: “Intermission=feet up. Rose adag good, solo eh, vision good. Awakening and act III next.” ...

"Ms. Bouder’s technique is so strong that unless she fell on her behind — she is a daredevil and that has been known to happen — an audience member might have trouble grasping why she thought her solo was “eh.” Her tactic is not to make followers feel bad about what they can’t see, but to show them how to look more closely."

It was "eh" because of a couple of pirouettes with "eh" finishes. (One usually finds fourth before one actually stops.) Minor detail. The rest of that Rose Adagio was stupendous, and her Vision Scene, as always, a marvel.

It would be worthwhile to book a ticket to NYC to catch her La Source that's coming up....

So do we! We think Twitter is the best tool for bridging the gap between both sides of the curtain, we find it more effective than Facebook... as you say it makes it so easy to ask questions, network, share opinions, without getting too personal.

On that note... a quick edit: POB has moved one step closer to web 2.0, having joined Facebook Monday this week - their fanpage is here http://bit.ly/cAZ1pB

Absolutely right, I do a lot of campaigning to get people to the ballet who normally wouldn't go thinking it is just girly and full of divas. It is so helpful to be able to retweet principle dancers around the globe who prove the opposite-- I also go around telling everyone who will listen to start following ballet folk on twitter, rather than just ordinary celebs. I think I have some converts! My personal favourite is MadK at SFB.

I'm able to go to a performance at San Francisco Ballet and ask questions literally minutes after the show is over, then receive a reply that same evening! Fantastic, it is so much more exciting to go to the ballet knowing there is that personal connection with some of the dancers. I wish they were all on twitter!
