TenduTV Delivers Programming from Dutch National Ballet & Wayne McGregor | Random Dance on Itunes

TenduTV released earlier this week the first-ever concert dance performances on iTunes. Critically acclaimed programs like  Entity from Wayne McGregor|Random Dance and the Hans van Manen Festival from Dutch National Ballet are now available for download to own and rent on iTunes in the United States and Canada. Also available is the award-winning documentary 40 Years of One Night Stands: The Story of Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet.

All three titles will be released in the United Kingdom and Ireland in the coming months, as well as on other US-based platforms.

“For the first time, audiences can access great choreography as easily as they can any other form of art or entertainment,” said TenduTV Founder and General Manager, Marc Kirschner. “These releases are an important step forward for the field of concert dance, and we’re proud to be collaborating with two of the most innovative dance companies in the world in Wayne McGregor | Random Dance and the Dutch National Ballet.”

Wayne McGregor, the Artistic Director of Wayne McGregor|Random Dance added, “We’re thrilled to be collaborating with TenduTV and we appreciate their ambition to distribute cutting edge dance to the wider community.”

Adrienne Liron and Jeff Tudor of 3 Minutes West, (co-producers with the Dutch National Ballet of the Hans van Manen Festival) added, “we are delighted and proud that our program is one of the first to be made available on iTunes. Thanks to the initiative of TenduTV, the wonderful performances of dancers from around the world will now be more accessible.”

Hans Van Manen Festival Program:

  • Dutch National Ballet – Adagio Hammerklavier, one of van Manen’s best-known and most ‘classical’ ballets featuring 3 couples.
  • Netherlands Dance Theater – Simple Things, a moving ballet about the conflict between the sexes, danced by two men and two women.
  • Uliana Lopatkina and Ivan Kozlov (Mariinsky Ballet) – Trois Gnossiennes, an intensely emotional pas de deux in three movements.
  • Lucia Lacarra and Bavarian State Ballet – Five Tangos, one of van Manen’s most popular ballets, set to the music of Astor Piazzolla, performed live by tango orchestra Sextetto Cayengue.

Each ballet is preceded by a brief ‘behind the scenes’ introduction.

We started The Ballet Bag in April 2009 with the mission to prove that ballet is not stuffy, old fashioned and inaccessible; that it is quite the opposite: relevant, fresh and topical. With the aim to Give Ballet a New Spin we try to show it under a different light. When writing our capsule biographies, ballet fact cards, review roundups and commentary on social media, we cross it over with other art forms and cultural references (pop culture, cinema, rock music – ie. other things we love!).
