Mara Galeazzi’s Gala 2011 – Dancing For the Children

Via Press Release:

On Sunday, 3 April 2011 Sadler’s Wells will host a special evening of dance, music and song featuring Royal Ballet Principal Mara Galeazzi and a star-studded line-up of guest performers including dancers with the Royal Ballet, the Balletboyz, the Trocks, 4 Poofs and a Piano as well as some surprise guests, all specially invited by Mara to perform choreography from classical ballet to tap and contemporary dance, including world premieres from new and established choreographers, virtuoso music and song.

Proceeds from the gala will go towards Mara’s charity Dancing for the Children with the aim of raising money for children in the UK  and abroad, and to enable a group of dancers to return to South Africa this year and continue the work they started in 2007, communicating across geographical, cultural and social borders, and distributing funds to underprivileged children.

In addition, money raised from the gala will also go towards Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity helping to make a difference to the lives of patients at the hospital that provides world-class care to hundreds of children every day.

We started The Ballet Bag in April 2009 with the mission to prove that ballet is not stuffy, old fashioned and inaccessible; that it is quite the opposite: relevant, fresh and topical. With the aim to Give Ballet a New Spin we try to show it under a different light. When writing our capsule biographies, ballet fact cards, review roundups and commentary on social media, we cross it over with other art forms and cultural references (pop culture, cinema, rock music – ie. other things we love!).
