Diana Vishneva: On the Edge

One of our most awaited balletic events this spring, Diana Vishneva: On the Edge is an evening built around the well-known Mariinsky/ABT principal. If you have seen Diana perform, then you know she’s all that and more. A very rare breed: a blend of versatility, fluidity, exemplary technique and dramatic expression, as evidenced in Mark Olich’s stunning images below.

The evening will be showcasing Diana’s contemporary side, with especially-commissioned pieces by Jean-Christophe Maillot (Switch, also featuring Ballets de Monte-Carlo regulars Gaëtan Morlotti and Bernice Coppieters) and France-based choreographer Carolyn Carlson (Woman in a Room). Here a trailer, as well as some beautiful images of Diana’s program, on at the London Coliseum next week:

We started The Ballet Bag in April 2009 with the mission to prove that ballet is not stuffy, old fashioned and inaccessible; that it is quite the opposite: relevant, fresh and topical. With the aim to Give Ballet a New Spin we try to show it under a different light. When writing our capsule biographies, ballet fact cards, review roundups and commentary on social media, we cross it over with other art forms and cultural references (pop culture, cinema, rock music – ie. other things we love!).
