Ballet Black in rehearsal: a photo gallery

Sayaka Ichikawa & Damien Johnson

How time flies! It had been a while since we had last dropped by to photograph Ballet Black, so we jumped at the opportunity to catch them in rehearsal for their spring season at the Barbican, especially because they were working on a modern dissection of Red Riding Hood with Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, who had so impressed us with her Broken Wings for ENB.

In addition to Red Riding Hood, Ballet Black is currently performing Captured by longtime collaborator Martin Lawrance, and a piece by classical British choreographer Michael Corder, House of Dreams. Linda captured each of these new ballets in our rehearsal gallery below:

Ballet Black is at the Barbican Theatre until Saturday 4 March 2017. For information & booking visit the Barbican website.

Her favourite ballets feel like good books – one can see them 1,000 times and they always feel fresh. Linda loves Giselle, all full-length MacMillan plus Song of the Earth, Robbins’s Dances at a Gathering, Balanchine’s Serenade and Agon, Ashton’s Scènes de Ballet and Symphonic Variations.
