After a painstaking vote counting, taking into account your comments in our original post, plus votes on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram (thank you all for participating!), we’re back with our Ballet Bracket and it’s time for Round 2!
First, some notes on the results so far:
1) Tamara love:Â Rojo got LOTSÂ of votes, and not just as Odette but also “off bracket” as Odile!
2) Sophie’s choice: many people suggested the Bolshoi’s Masha Alexandrova should have moved brackets to Kitri. She had more votes there than Kitri runner up Viktoria Tereshkina. On that note, we realise the competition in this particular bracket was super tough and ended up being referred to by many voters as “Sophie’s choiceâ€.
3) How could we forget? In the Aurora bracket, there was a mention for Olesya Novikova, who is indeed a lovely Aurora.
4) Legends: even though we asked readers to vote on dancers they find particularly compelling in 2017, some retired ballerinas got namechecked: Gelsey Kirkland, Aurélie Dupont and Sylvie Guillem amongst them.
How to play Round 2:
- In each bracket – Aurora, Kitri, Odette, Odile – you will find two finalist ballerinas (click on image above to zoom in)
- Which one is your favorite from each of these four sections? Let us know in the comments below, or via any of our social media channels.
- Do share this post with your friends, ask them to vote too.
- The Auroras, Kitris, Odettes and Odiles with the most votes get through to the finals.
We will keep updating this post as we progress to the next round.

PS Legends in 2017: a little tricky because the year has only just started so there’s a lot of Nutcracker and random pas de deux or triple bills in here along with just Sleeping Beauty and Giselle (2016 might be a more representative assessment). Ok, so if it’s just 2017- Iana Salenko (Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, Dying Swan), Alina Cojocaru (Skeaping’s Giselle, Eagling’s Nutcracker), Maria Alexandrova (Firebird), Evgenia Obraztsova (Sleeping Beauty grand pas de deux), and – perhaps a surprising choice but she was truly moving in Flight Pattern: Kristen McNally (also an unforgettable Carabosse this year).

Ok, my vote either posted twice or not at all- some IT glitch going on! Trying agzin. Odette- Lopatkina, Aurora- Obraztsova, Kitri-Osipova, Odile- can’t vote (never saw either in Swan Lake so it won’t be fair to guess).

What fun !
Osi is THE Kitri.
I never really got Lopatkina (shame on me) but deffo prefer to Rojo. I should have voted last round for Zakharova, I’d love to see Mearns.
Aurora – if it can’t be Novikova, then Obratzova.
Odile – Alexandrova.
How about one for the guys next – Albrecht, Solor, Basilio, Romeo :):)

Oh no, from my votes only the Auroras got through to next round
And how to choose between Alina and Genia???? For me they are a tie!
Other brackets: Odette – Rojo, Odile – Murphy, Kitri – Osipova
Romain
Odile: Tamara Rojo
Kitri: Natalia Osipova
Aurora: Alina Cojocaru
Odile: Maria Alexandrova

If I could vote a straight Alexandrova ticket, I would. Otherwise…
Kitri: Osipova
Aurora: Cojocaru
Odile: Alexandrova
Odette: I can’t bring myself to choose between two dancers neither of whom speak to me, especially considering Rojo’s O/O is the only performance I haven’t seen among these eight. Maybe she’s amazing. I don’t know–!
